Royal honor for the founder of Incofin

Today is a remarkable day for Incofin. Our founder, Loïc De Cannière, has been appointed Commander of the Order of Leopold — Belgium’s highest royal honor.

This distinction recognizes individuals whose exceptional contributions have shaped society. For Loïc, it acknowledges a lifelong commitment to impact investing and social equity across emerging markets — transforming access to finance, food, and water for millions.

For over two decades, Loïc led Incofin’s evolution into a global impact investor, with more than USD 4.7 billion invested across 76 countries. His leadership positioned Incofin as a pioneer in inclusive finance, sustainable food systems, and clean water access for underserved communities.

Beyond the numbers, Loïc’s thought leadership continues to influence development discourse. He has amplified the industry’s voice by serving as Chair of the Social Performance Task Force, and holding board roles at Finance Trust Bank (Uganda) and other social enterprises. His latest book, The Future of Employment in Africa: Demography, Labour Markets and Welfare (Anthem Press), explores Africa’s demographic revolution and its potential for job creation and prosperity.

As we carry this legacy forward, we remain inspired by Loïc’s vision: that capital can—and must—be a force for good.
